It was taking part in the Jamel Comedy Club in 2006 to 2009 that the Parisian comedienne, writer and director rose to fame. Amelle Chahbi has subsequently worked in film, television and on stage.
In particular, she leveraged her comedic talent by co-writing and starring alongside Noom Diawara in the play Amour sur place ou à emporter, from 2011 to 2013. It was with this project that Amelle stepped behind the camera for the first time, shooting the film adaptation that was released in 2014. Her second feature-length film, co-directed with Lucien Jean-Baptiste and Alexandre Amiel Pourquoi nous détestent-ils ? (2016) reflects on the persistence of racial prejudice in France.
She has also appeared in the films Les Barons by Nabil Ben Yadir (2009), Joséphine by Agnès Obadia (2013), Le Crocodile du Botswanga by Fabrice Eboué and Lionel Steketee (2014), and more recently in Coexister by Fabrice Eboué, released on 11th October 2017.
She is currently the poster girl for her first solo piece Qui est Chahbi? at the Feux de la Rampe theatre in Paris. Staged by Josiane Balasko, the show will be running until 13th January 2018.
